Around 200 pupils and students from over 20 nations are enrolled at the university. The focus of the training is on the development of the individual into a creative and independent artistic personality with their own unmistakable language. Building on the 100-year tradition of the university, the training is based on the three pillars of classical dance, contemporary/modern dance and improvisation.

The university offers a Bachelor's degree in Dance, a Master's degree in Dance Pedagogy (part-time study) and a Master's degree in Choreography. For the individual further development of artistic skills, a course of study in the artistic master class and the "Eleven Program" certificate course are offered. With its range of courses, the university is competitively positioned at an international level. The university lives the tradition of innovation in Dresden in close cooperation with the Semperoper Dresden, HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts Dresden and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, among others. This cooperation has resulted in a flagship that has established dance as a mainstay of Dresden as a city of art and culture on a national level.
