Dresden College of Music

Dresden College of Music

With roots dating back to 1856, Dresden College of Music is best known for its teaching in orchestral music, vocal performance and, since 1962, jazz/rock/pop. 699 students are currently enrolled, with teachers who are internationally renowned (professional) musicians from traditional orchestras.

In the two faculties, you will be able to draw on the skills of the concertmaster of Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and violin virtuoso Wolfgang Hentrich, for example, or study with the internationally renowned composer Mark André, or the jazz trumpeter Till Brönner.

Dresden College of Music offers an outstanding number of study opportunities and teaching at the highest level. In addition to bachelor’s and master’s arts degree programmes, the college also offers special teacher training degrees. You can either combine the traditional school subject of music with another subject or study music as a double subject.

In addition to this, there are also master classes and part-time master’s degree programmes. You can also study for a doctorate in musicology, music education, and music theory. What’s more, the State Playhouse Dresden presents a production of the opera class every year. In collaboration with other universities, academies, and colleges of fine arts, the set design, make-up, costumes, and the performance are created solely by the students — the perfect dress rehearsal for their future careers.
