Saxony’s universities are first-class

The German University of Excellence TU Dresden, Leipzig University, Chemnitz University of Technology, and Freiberg University of Mining and Technology are among the best universities in Germany and offer a huge selection of degree programmes: from traditional natural sciences and engineering to humanities and social sciences. The University of Fine Arts in Dresden and Leipzig's Academy of Fine Arts also enjoy an excellent reputation far beyond Saxony. Together with the universities of applied sciences and the universities of cooperative education, Saxony’s higher education landscape leaves nothing to be desired. And the best part is that the degree you earn here is in demand worldwide — regardless of whether you opt for a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate.

Great libraries

A highlight of Saxony’s educational landscape are the 14 university libraries, whose collections and services are among the best in the country. The Saxon State and University Library Dresden alone has over 17 million items, making it one of the largest academic libraries in Germany. The only other library in Saxony that tops it is the German National Library in Leipzig, which literally archives all publications in German. But the university libraries in Leipzig and Chemnitz are also impressive — with spacious reading rooms, state-of-the-art equipment, and a huge range of books, journals, and digital media.

Networking of institutions

Saxony stands out not only for its excellent institutions, but also for the close networking between universities, research institutes, and companies. Through numerous collaborations and joint projects, you’ll be able to make valuable contacts and gain practical experience during your studies. The transfer of knowledge between the various institutions is also a top priority, meaning you’ll benefit from the latest research findings and always stay up to date.
