Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig

Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig

One of the oldest and most important art academies in Europe, today’s Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) has been teaching art and design at the highest level for over 250 years.

Many graduates have left their mark on contemporary fine art and graphic design, and quite a few well-known names have taught at HGB Leipzig. And it is an international institution — with 100 cooperation partners from the world of art, graphic design, science, and business, for example. This is a close-knit network that ensures high quality and sustainability in teaching and practice.

The beautiful main building is a great place to study: The study groups are small, and the facilities first-class — including excellent workshops for letterpress printing, artistic offset printing, lithography, and much more. There are around 500 students developing their artistic personality here: in close contact with the teaching staff, but still full of individuality. You can choose from a wide range of courses in your own subject as well as interdisciplinary courses.

There are four diploma programmes to choose from: Painting/printmaking, book design/graphic design, photography, and media art. There is also the master class programme (graduate studies for artists) in all degree programmes and the “Cultures of the Curatorial” postgraduate master’s programme.
